Week #26 Tour de Plains GRVL Challenge starts July 1st!

Week #26 - 513 miles

Yes, the Tour de Plains GRVL Challenge will start on July 1st and things are in place. I think I have done as much prep work as I could have for this. As of today, I have rode 11,530 miles in 2022. The ride streak is at 913 days and averaging 60.4 miles per day. There have been 10 weeks so far this year above 500 miles per week and 39 100+ mile rides. The big thing is going to work on recovery each day. Trying to eat and drink during the rides will be very important. Hopefully the weather will cooperate and that our heatwave is over for a bit.

Week #25 Another big week / last one before Tour de Plains GRVL Challenge

Week #25 - 619 miles

Happy to get in over 600 miles this week along with a 200 mile ride on Saturday. I rode down to Beatrice to do the Solstice 100 with Josh. Got lucky with the weather, even though it was hot, the wind wasn't that bad. Started out I had a headwind but about halfway to Beatrice, the wind went down. We kept a pretty easy pace for most of the day, but Josh still had a little trouble the last couple of hours. I ended up having a great tailwind on the ride back and finished just under 12 1/2 hours ride time. Really happy since I also did 100 miler on Thursday. On July 1st the Tour de Plains GRVL Challenge will start. I think I am ready to put those miles in. My biggest concern is that I eat/drink enough each day to be ready for the next day. I know if I just ride easy things will go good.

Week #24 Nice to have a little down week

Week #24 - 392 miles

After getting in a little over 2,100 miles for the past 4 weeks, it was nice to have a bit of a recovery week. I did get to ride the "wet route" for Solstice. The course was very soft from the rain the night before, but all rideable. It was a slow 104 miles with the conditions on the road and the wind. Randy came over and we got in an early spin on Friday. Over the weekend I went back to the Sandhills and got in a couple of short spins. The weather was really nice back there and the hills are looking very green. Next up is a long ride on the 18th , where I will ride down to Beatrice and ride Solstice with Josh and then ride home. Hope to get in around 190-200 miles for the day. Only 2 1/5 weeks until Tour de Plains GRVL Challenge starts!

Week #23 Another big month along w/ rolling over 10,000 miles for the year

Week #23 - 543 miles
May - 2135 miles

May turned out to be a great month with getting in 2135 miles and 8 rides of 100+ miles. It was nice to finish the last part of the month with 3 days of 117 mi, 130 mi, & 110 mi. This gives me a little extra confidence going into my challenge in July. It was nice to ride down & back to Emporia this weekend and watch the start of the races at Unbound. Maybe missed racing the XL a little bit but glad I didn't have to deal with the mud. Definitely had enough of it at IWAR! Super fun to do The Chugg ride and roll over 10,000 miles today. This coming week will be a bit of a rest week before getting in a big mileage day on June 18th riding Solstice with Josh.

Week #22 Rolled over 9K this week

Week #22 - 541 miles

Got over 9,000 miles this week. I also got in a couple good long rides of 117 miles & 130 miles. The wind has decided not to quit blowing which has made for some tough days in the saddle. On Sunday I came back over 36 minutes faster over 65 miles and wasn't really even trying that hard. It was nice to get in a little over 7 hours and being stopped for less than 5 minutes. I probably could of used a little more food and drink but it is good to push the body sometimes so when you get in a situation where you need to push through, you know that you can. Next up is my trip to Emporia from Lawrence on Friday to watch the start of Unbound then return back to Lawrence on Saturday. I hopefully be able to do The Chugg ride on Sunday.

Week #21 A little ahead of schedule

Week #21 - 473 miles

As of this week, I am 669 miles ahead of 2020 for total mileage. On Saturday was my 29th ride over 100 miles for the year. This is one more than 2020. I will be doing 13 100+ rides in July during Tour de Plains, so that month will probably keep up a bit. I am still hoping to do Cannonball 550 in September. I really want to get that 500+ mile ride in this year. I also would like to get in a 700 mile week sometime this year. The first full week of Tour de Plains could be it depending on how many miles I ride on the rest day.

Week #20 Good week / Good legs

Week #20 - 568 miles

After a couple weeks of recovering from IWAR, my body is starting to feel good again. I wasn't really planning on having this big of a week, but when you get in 3 rides of 100+ miles, the miles start to pile up. Got in 2 stops at Sunrise Bakery, which is the best place for a mid ride stop. This next week will be a little of a down week since family is in town, but I will see if I can get close to 2K for the month.
