Week #30 Another good week in the books

Week #30 - 515 miles

Another solid week in the books! Things are looking good for The LongVoyage with one more big week on tap. It was nice to get over 500 miles again without having a real long ride planned. Saturday was a good day with 116 miles in before it got really hot.  Saving that big ride for next Saturday, where we are planning to ride the first half of The Long Voyage and back home from Beatrice.
It was fun to have Kae Takeshita stay at the house this weekend and get an easy ride in on Sunday. She is recovering from a neck injury that has sidelined her since June. Glad she is back on the bike and hopefully be back racing soon.

Week #29 This is kind of a rest week

Week #29 - 445 miles

After a couple weeks of 500+ miles, this was a little bit of a recovery week. For the most part my body is recovering well. Early in the week I was still a bit tired from The Epic. Monday I took off riding in the afternoon which seemed to help. This coming week should be around 500 miles again, then a big ride on the last Saturday of the month to recon the first half of The Long Voyage. It will be good to see parts of the course we will be going over in the dark.

Week #28 The Epic was well kind of EPIC

Week #28 - 566 miles

Went to Warsaw, Missouri this weekend to do The Epic 150 (actually 143 miles). I got there on Friday and rode the short course which was around 45 miles. It turned out that it was a very good idea to preview the part of the race course. Saturday started out with some light rain as we began racing. There was a group of about 10 guys that formed around 10 miles in. Somewhere around 20ish miles my Garmin went blank. I tried to restart it but nothing was working. A few miles later, the screen fell off.  My plan then was to try to hang with folks as long as I could and hopefully made it in to the finish. Luckily I was with people until around mile 115. The other good thing was I had been on the finishing part of the course so I knew most of the turns. I had to watch tire tracks and had to ask a couple of the folks from the 90 miler I was catching where the next turn was. I ended up getting 5th overall and won the masters. Not bad since I have logged 1,072 miles for the last two weeks. I have one more big training ride at the end of the month and then The Long Voyage!

Week #27 Back at it

Week #27 - 506 miles

        June - 1840 miles

This was probably the first week since Unbound XL that my body has felt really good. It seems like it took forever to recover from the race. I am hoping to have another big week of training along with doing The Epic 150 on Saturday. Then the last week of July will be my last big ride before The Long Voyage. I plan on riding the first half of the course, then ride home. Should be around a 200 mile day. That will give me 3 weeks to rest and recover.
